Productivity Thy Name Is…

April 21st, 2008 by Rainey

So for whatever reason, leaving work an hour early can make all the difference. I was able to go to the bank, run to Target, eat dinner, do two loads of laundry, prep for three meals, AND dance with my baby, read him books, give him a bath, and put him to bed. All on my own! I am woman…hear me roar.
I just feel better about life when I can get things done like that. The day at work was less than fruitful, so it was good that at least this evening went well.
Sometimes I feel totally at peace with being a mom. I can handle it. I can just sit back and enjoy the ride and relish my moments with my son.
Then the next day I am a bundle of nerves and mental stopwatches, focused on what I am NOT able to do rather than the simple joys of my baby. The pendulum swings back and forth, I suppose.
Tonight I was on duty as a single parent because Conan had to work late. He was able to spend the morning with Zeke and actually took him to the grocery store and brought home the groceries and put them up before dropping him off at my work. Pretty impressive. My husband has some cajones taking a baby to the grocery store solo. At least I thought so. But it all went well and all the women at my office collectively swooned at the thought of a man who would willingly care for a baby and go to the store. Granted, they are all over sixty, so they did not necessarily have this type of environment when they were raising kids. I feel very lucky…not only that my husband is an awesome dad, but that he doesn’t blink at the idea of doing that sort of thing–it is just how we roll.
It was sad when Conan got home and Zeke was already swaddled up and in the crib asleep. He missed spending time with his little guy. Though, as I assured him, he will probably see plenty of him over the course of the night. ha. (sigh.)
